Daniels: Battles – My Machines + Dogboarding

L.A based Daniels directed Battles latest music video My Machines (ft. Gary Numan) ~ a collaboration between Battles, Warp Records and The Creators Project’s The Studio, which produces and distributes works from artists representing a cross-section of creative disciplines.

Earlier in the year Daniels also directed Dogboarding.

So apparently, this  Ian Pons Jewell guy is going to go all “making videos you want to watch” on us.  Love his style.

Check out this one for DJ Shadow.

Young Replicant: Hooray For Earth

Young Replicant is an L.A. based production team featuring directors Alex Takacs and Joe Nankin. They work with a revolving cast of crew and collaborators. Their latest project is a mv for Hooray For Earth‘s True Loves track

Vincent Haycock: Music Videos

Logan director Vincent Haycock recently finished up this music video for Calvin Harris’ Bounce … After being bounced by his girlfriend a hipster decides to, uhm, bounce through Vegas. Vincent makes a cameo himself near the end … this is the first of four music videos Vincent will be directing for Calvin Harris’ new album.

That also led me to this:

Vincent Haycock directed music video for Jamie Woon’s Lady Luck. Emotional vibes tearing up the city around her … love the original play of live action and cg.

See all Vincent’s work up on vimeo.

Rogier van der Zwaag: Nobody Beats the Drum

Rogier van der Zwaag directed this amazing stop motion music video for Nobody Beats the Drum‘s track Poisson Vert. “We made this one in a forest, shot most of it in 7 (long) nights and after that I made some inserts of tunnels and bushes in a studio.” Really love the dynamic play of light and shadow, turned out great.

Markus Wagner + LWZ: Amongst Giants

Vienna based designer/animator Markus Wagner and LWZ collective recently completed this music video for composer Matthias Hacksteiner‘s final university project; Amongst Giants.

What Matters Most + Flying Lotus: Vans Syndicate x Luke Meier

Just came across L.A based What Matters Most; a co-operative of artists looking elevate each other’s work through a collective process. Some stunning work and fantastic direction. First up is Vans Syndicate x Luke Meier; Written and directed by Kahlil Joseph, in collaboration with Luke Meier, shot using the RED ONE as well as the Phantom HD systems with audio by Flying Lotus and Melvin Gibbs –> A viral ad spot designed to celebrate the launch of a new product by Luke Meier and Vans Syndicate.

Next up is this Extended web version music video for “Cheeba” by Shafiq (Sa-Ra) feat. Bilal, incorporating several pieces of music off of Shafiq’s debut solo album En A-Free-Ka and greatly inspired by the Thelonious Monk documentary “Straight No Chaser.” Also directed by Kahlil Joseph.

Also love Shabazz Palaces – Belhaven Meridian; An allegorical short film/music video for Shabazz Palaces called “Belhaven Meridian.” Beautifully shot on 35mm black & white film in Watts, Los Angeles, “Belhaven Meridian” is a one-shot homage to Charles Burnett’s 1977 classic KILLER OF SHEEP.

Metronomy: The Look

While we’re on the subject of minimalism and directors, Lorenzo Fonda just busted out this sweet little piece of minimalistic awesomeness for Metronomy’s new single “The Look.”  The stop motion is really great, and plays as a nice little story juxtapozed with the footage of the band.

Nexus\ Celyn: Wagon Christ ~ Chunkothy

Nexus‘ directing talent Celyn recently wrapped up this animated promo for Wagon Christ‘s new track “Chunkothy” from their eagerly awaited Toomorrow LP (for which Celyn also created the album sleeve). Interesting, the entire animation was made in Photoshop. “I basically wanted to make an animation as close to something printed as possible, in line and colour. For the colour, I had a small palette of CMYK swatches I’d chosen from the print job which I used. It was as simple as that really. No gimmicks, no tweeny motion tricks, no cgi and no animatic or storyboards.”

Video Violence:

Two new ass-kicking cool music videos for Videoville based (ahem) band Video Violence. Watch HK970-Z and Video Violence (Official) … also check out their facebook band page for a few extra visual and audible treats.

Egyptrixx – Start from the Beginning

Dark, hypnotic animated short by Berlin artist A. N. Fischer, Egyptrixx – Start from the Beginning … “The video examines the relationship between the simulated image and its physical manifestation. The landscape appearing in the video references one of Fischer´s relief sculptures.” Love the track.
