HelloHikimori: Offff Istanbul 2012, Main Titles

A whopping 7.5 minute trailer for OFFF Istanbul, produced by the talented Paris based studio HelloHikimori. An impressive line-up of speakers will be presenting, including Esen Karol, Falk & Sun’s, Hellohikimori, Hi-Res!, Hort, Joshua Davis, Neville Brody, Onesize, The Mill and Vasava

I love the flow through urban landscapes, with subtle placement of speaker names within surrounding architectural elements, as though you may miss it unless you look closely … giving it a sense of truly belonging in its environment.

From HelloHikimori’s Director David Ronhel: “… we had a tight deadline , needing to complete the titles from-beginning-to-end in 20 days, including fine cutting the correct mix between 3d and shooting. The goal was to make something different from past OFFF titles. It was all about coincidence … happy accidents in landscapes and motion. We couldn’t do full 3D for all the speakers’ names, so what you see is some full 3D, some real stuff and some 2D after-effects.

We shot with red camera on a 2 day weekend. As you can see in the story board (below) the ending was initially planned as a burning skateboard, but unfortunately because the cops arrived on set, so we had to scrap the fire and go with 3d.

Overall it was pretty hardcore and we invested a lot in this project. This project in particular was important to us, we believe in our abilities to overcome financial and production hurdles. It was a challenge but we are happy with the way it came out.”
